Edmonton International Airport Notification of ILS Replacement
NAV CANADA wishes to inform its customers that the Instrument Landing System (ILS) for
runways 02 and 30 at the Edmonton International Airport will be replaced during the summer of 2010 as part of the National ILS Replacement Program. The installation of new PARK AIR ILS systems on runways 02 and 30 will address life cycle (reliability and integrity of service) and operational efficiency issues.
The current ILS on runway 02 also supports instrument procedures to runway 20 (back-course). Since new ILS systems no longer have back-course signal capability, NAV CANADA has developed an RNAV (GNSS) procedure to replace the localizer back-course approach for runway 20 which, combined with the existing approach procedures, will maintain access to runway 20. There is no impact on runway 12 as it currently has an ILS.The planned outage period for the runway 02 ILS is from
05 July to 27 August, 2010 and for runway 30 ILS, 13 August, 2010 to 23 September, 2010. Please note an overlap of both ILS outages from 13 August, 2010 to 27 August, 2010. During this period all other navigation aids at the airport will remain operational to maximize airport accessibility. Dates are subject to change depending upon weather conditions and contractor availability. Actual dates of scheduled outage will be published via NOTAM. Pilots should carefully monitor the NOTAM before and during the construction period for specific dates of the outage or other related disruptions.
NAV CANADA regrets any inconvenience to its customers; however, the importance of these navigation aids is recognised and every effort will be made to restore ILS operations on runways 02 and 30 at Edmonton International Airport as quickly as possible.
